Monitor manufacturers have constantly been pushing the refresh rates on their gaming monitors. A 240Hz refresh rate has been the de facto standard for e-sports players and competitive gamers for quite a while. However, Asus had taken the initiative to push the boundaries of gaming monitors, when it announced its 360Hz 1080p gaming monitor earlier this year, with Dell following soon. Acer has become the latest monitor manufacturer to jump on the 360Hz bandwagon.

While a monitor with 144Hz or 165Hz has been the preferred refresh rate of casual gamers, e-sports players and professionals have always preferred a 240Hz monitor for a competitive advantage. These new 360Hz monitors aim to stretch that benefit further, giving players a slight edge. While normal or casual players won’t notice a major difference going from 240Hz to 360Hz, it may be beneficial for competitive players.

High refresh rate panels have been mostly limited to the 1080p resolution segment. 1440p monitors have featured a refresh rate of up to 144Hz or 165Hz, with 1440p 240Hz panels becoming available only recently.
